The Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Energy Mr. Abdessalam Ould Mohamed SALEH signed today Tuesday, February 21, 2023 in Nouakchott an Exploration – Production Contract (CEP), covering block C2 located offshore, with the oil company Shell Exploration and Production Mauritania (Shell) represented by Mr. William Langin, First Vice-President in charge of Exploration in the West Zone and Deep Water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the contract terms, Shell commits to conduct seismic surveys and exploration operations during Phase I and production operations during Phase III. Mauritania will hold 25% of the contract.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shell already holds an exploration and production contract on Block C10 on which it has conducted 3D seismic studies of XXXX that have led to the identification of prospects that may be spread over the area of the two adjacent blocks C2 and C10 and plans to conduct exploration drilling before the end of 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his speech, Mr. Abdessalam Ould Mohamed Saleh, Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Energy said that “the expansion of Shell’s activity in the offshore Mauritanian coastal basin is part of the implementation of the strategy to promote the Mauritanian oil sector.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the same occasion, Mr. William Langin, Senior Vice President of Shell confirmed that “Shell is pleased with its partnership with Mauritania through the production sharing contracts and we both look forward to continuing our cooperation towards a fruitful future”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
