The Mauritanian Ministry of Petroleum, Minerals and Energy announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with a consortium of Emirati, Egyptian and German companies to establish a green hydrogen project worth $34 billion, including an electrolysis facility with a capacity of 10 gigawatts.
The consortium includes the Egyptian “Infinity”, “Masdar” and the German “Conjunta”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“28th of February, 2023: <\/strong>Infinity Power Holding, the joint venture between Egypt\u2019s Infinity and UAE\u2019s Masdar along with Conjuncta GmbH, a German project developer, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the government of Mauritania, represented by the Ministry of Petroleum, Mines and Energy to develop a Green Hydrogen plant over three phases, which is expected to produce up to\u00a08 million tons of Green Hydrogen\u00a0or other Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origins, upon completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The MoU was signed today between Infinity Power, Conjuncta and the Government of Mauritania, by His Excellency, <\/strong>Mr Abdessalam Mohamed Saleh on behalf of the MPME,<\/strong> Mr Mohamed Ismail Mansour on behalf of Infinity Power Holding and Mr Stefan Liebing<\/strong> on behalf of Conjuncta<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The plant, which will be located near the Northeast of Nouakchott, can reach Electrolyser capacity of up to 10GW, making it capable of producing up to 8 million tons of Green Hydrogen or its equivalent in Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origins. The Green Hydrogen, Ammonia and\/or other renewable fuels produced from the plant will be used for exports. The first phase of the plant of 400 MW is expected to be operational by 2028. The overall project will provide employment to approximately 3,000 workers during construction and to 1,000 workers when operational.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Speaking on this occasion, His Excellency Mr. Abdessalam MOHAMED SALEH, Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Energy,<\/strong> said: \u201c Our country is determined to play a leading position on the global map of the green hydrogen economy in the coming decades. We strongly believe that the development of the green hydrogen industry in Mauritania will bring environmental, economic and social benefits to our country and the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I am very pleased today to have signed this MOU with the Consortium (Infinity & Conjuncta GmbH) which has very strong technical and financial capabilities and deep relationships allowing it to enter the European green hydrogen market, particularly in Germany\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Speaking of the signing, Mohamed Ismail Mansour, Chairman, Infinity Power<\/strong>, said, \u201cWe are extremely delighted to partner with the government of Mauritania in building this Green Hydrogen plant, which will provide not only the North-West but the entire continent of Africa with a clean, renewable energy source that will in turn foster a cleaner, greener future for us all.
