Mauritania has officially obtained observer status within the Organization of Gas Exporting Countries. The decision was taken at the 25\u1d49 session of the organization’s interministerial meeting, held yesterday in Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our country’s membership of this organization, which brings together 19 countries representing 72% of the world’s total gas reserves, confirms the significant potential and promising prospects it has in the gas sector,” said a press release issued by the Mauritanian Ministry of Energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The country is preparing to produce gas from the Grand-Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) field, shared with Senegal, in the first quarter of next year, according to the ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GECF, made up of 19 countries, collectively holds over 72% of the world’s gas reserves and accounts for 42% of global gas production. The GECF’s mission is to promote gas as a transitional fuel, while respecting the sovereignty of producing countries over their resources.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
