Nigeria and Morocco agreed on a pipeline linking the two countries through mauritanian coast

The Kingdom of Morocco signed, last week (September 15), with Nigeria a memorandum of understanding for the construction of a pipeline to transport natural gas from Abuja to Rabat, crossing several West African countries along the Atlantic coast, said a joint statement.

The gas pipeline will facilitate the export of gas from Nigeria to North Africa and European markets, in a context marked by strong international demand for gas in Europe, following the outbreak of Russian-Ukrainian war.

The signing of the aforementioned memorandum of understanding was carried out in the presence of the Economic Community of African States (CEDAW), which will count among the main beneficiaries of the construction of the new gas pipeline, given that it passes through most of the group’s member states.

The gas pipeline will traverse the West African coast from Nigeria to Morocco, through Benin, Togo, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, The Gambia, Senegal, Mauritania

The total capacity of this pipeline, which extends over 6,500 km, is expected to reach 3 billion cubic feet of gas per day.
