The international oil and gas majors have announced their profits for the fourth quarter of 2022. The combined profits of the world’s five largest oil companies (Chevron, ExxonMobil, BP, Shell and Total Energies) have reached around $200 billion in 2022.
The majors, three of which are present in Mauritania (BP, Shell and Total Energies), have achieved these record results, thanks to rising energy prices following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The American company ExxonMobil, which has just left the Mauritanian market, recorded the highest profits with $59.1 billion. Shell announced the highest profits in the company’s 115-year history ($39.9 billion) and Chevron ($36.5 billion), Total Energies ($36.2 billion) and BP ($27.7 billion) also set new records.
The three energy giants present in Mauritania, BP, Shell and Total Energies, are currently engaged in oil and gas development and exploration.
The British company BP is currently developing the GTA gas field shared with #Senegal. It is also carrying out feasibility studies for the BirAllah gas field. Shell and TotalEnergies, on the other hand, are currently in the exploration phase in the Mauritanian coastal basin.
