The World Bank: The energy and energy transition are at the heart of our partnership with Mauritania
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the partnership between Mauritania and the World Bank, an event was organized today in Nouakchott, highlighting the crucial importance of Human Capital for a resilient and inclusive Mauritania. In the course of this celebration, Ousmane Diagana, Vice President of the World Bank for West and Central Africa, granted an interview to Mauritanian media.
In this interview, Mr. Diagana emphasized the rare opportunities available to Mauritania in the field of energy. He discussed the possibility for the country to ensure universal access to electricity for all residents at an affordable cost. This energy abundance also provides businesses with the chance to significantly reduce their expenses, thus fostering the dynamism of economic activities and job creation.
Energy is now a priority framework for the partnership between the World Bank and Mauritania. Mr. Diagana stated that the Bank would support the Mauritanian government in implementing its national energy development strategy, underscoring the commitment to supporting the country’s economic growth and progress.
This commemorative event also provided an opportunity to reflect on six decades of successful collaboration between Mauritania and the World Bank. Since the signing of the first financing agreement in 1964, the country and the international financial institution have established a strong and enduring partnership. Future challenges, particularly those related to resilience and inclusivity, will be jointly addressed, thereby strengthening the already close ties between Mauritania and the World Bank.
