MASDAR: Green hydrogen projects developed in Africa, including 3 in Mauritania, will capture 10% of the world market by 2050
Abu Dhabi-based clean energy firm MASDAR said in a recent report that green hydrogen projects in Africa could capture 10% of the global hydrogen market by 2050.
The said projects mentioned in the report include 3 based in Mauritania; namely the AMAN project (CWP), the NOUR project (Chariot and Total Eren) and the one initiated by SNIM and ArcellorMittal.
The same document stressed that these African projects could create up to 3.7 million jobs and add as much as $120 billion to the continent’s gross domestic product in the next three decades.
“Africa’s plentiful solar and wind resources could be leveraged to produce 30 to 60 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of green hydrogen by 2050, about 5 per cent to 10 per cent of global demand,” the report affirmed.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that the size of the hydrogen industry is expected to reach $183 billion by 2023, up from $129 billion in 2017.
In effect, the French investment bank, Natixis, estimates that investments in hydrogen will exceed 300 billion dollars by 2030.
