The Association of Moroccan Employers: We are ready to share our experience with Mauritanian companies in the field of renewable energy
The president of Moroccan Association of businesses and Employers, Chakib Alj, affirmed, in a speech delivered at the second edition of the Morocco-Mauritania economic forum, held last week in Casablanca, that Moroccan companies are ready to cooperate with their Mauritanian counterparts in boosting the exploitation of renewable energies in Mauritania.
On this occasion, Mr. Alj emphasised that Mauritania is endowed with substantial renewable energy resources, explainaing that cooperation between the two parties will contribute to building solar and wind energy units in Mauritania, within the framework of projects recently launched by the Mauritanian government.
“Mauritania has adequate geographical and climatic potential to succeed in its energy transition, cover its renewable energy needs and reduce its production costs”, he declared at the opening of the Forum.
He stressed that this cooperation will help the two countries reap the benefits of a great economic development that can be achieved by investing in the renewable energy sectors, especially in terms of job creation and improving the added value.
Ambitious renewable energy projects in Mauritania
Mauritania launched recently several projects to develop the exploitation of renewable energy, especially wind and solar generation.
On this ground, many generating stations was established, in addition to signing two memoranda of understanding to initiate two projects for the production of green hydrogen.
Indeed, the first memorandum of understanding concerns the “AMAN” project, which will be executed in partnership with CWP Global to construct 30 GW with a $40 billion investment.
On the other hand, the second MoU was signed with Chariot, to develop the Project NOUR, expected to produce 10 gigawatts at a total cost of $3.5 billion.
New prospects for cooperation
Earlier this week, the second edition of the Mauritanian-Moroccan Business Forum, took place in Casablanca, with the participation of 140 Mauritanian economic actors, in addition to dozens of Moroccan companies.
Previously, the eighth session of the Joint Higher Committee was held last March, to supervise the signing of 13 agreements and memoranda of understanding in several vital economic sectors.
It is worth mentioning that the first edition of this forum was organized at the end of 2018 in Nouakchott, with the participation of about 100 companies and economic operators from the Kingdom of Morocco.
